PROJECT OVERVIEW
Specially made in Japan, Kyoto is making its debut in the states! The goal of the packaging is to amplify Kyoto’s traditional Japanese packaging by updating the overall look and feel for U.S. markets.
My process started with mood boarding about what I want Kyoto to look like for American consumers. I researched different Japanese design trends and thought of ways to transform them to the packing. I knew I wanted the packaging to be red, bold, and to ready pack a heated punch. After I was satisfied with my research I moved to building out the different elements of the packaging, such as what fonts to use and which symbols to represent the branding. I drew up a geometric habanero pepper, along with a mushroom and apple, to represent some of the ingredients in the sauce - the geometric shapes provide a connection to the embellished geometric shape underneath the logo.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Consumers are presented with hundreds of options at a grocery store, so for this project I knew it was important to keep the design organized and legible but fun and eye catching.
